Blue House

The Blue House is a 4-storey balcony-type tenement block named after the brilliant blue colour painted on its external walls. It is one of the few remaining examples of tong lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong. The site was originally occupied by 'Wah To Hospital', also known as 'Wan Chai Kai Fong Hospital', which was listed in the 1872 Rate Book. The Blue House Cluster consists of three blocks of traditional shophouses constructed from the 1920s to the 1950s, namely Blue House, Yellow House and Orange House. The building has been revitalized as part of the Viva Blue House project, showcasing people-led heritage conservation. The ground floor now houses the Hong Kong House of Stories, a museum displaying daily life artifacts and heritage information. The venue is open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, closed on Wednesdays and public holidays. Guided one-hour tours of the cluster are offered to visitors.
